Yes, they’re nuts. Their wallpaper idea is more than, well, stupid. Here’s simple solution:

1. Download blank.png,
2. Click change background in bottom left corner,
3. Click “From my computer”,
4. Upload file you just downloaded.

It’s not as good as original Google page, but it definitely more eye-friendly that their idea of it.
